About Pav Spencer Art
Pav Spencer is an abstract figurative artist based on Sydney's Northern Beaches, creating bold, expressive works that balance playful energy with emotional depth. Her intuitive practice is rooted in storytelling, spontaneity and a deep trust in the creative process.
With a background in graphic design, Pav brings a strong understanding of colour, composition and form to her mixed media paintings. Her work centres on simplified and exaggerated figures that hint at a narrative without ever fully revealing it. Drawn to contrasts... stillness and movement, bold colour and negative space, humour and vulnerability... she creates paintings that invite curiosity and personal interpretation.
Pav has never believed a painting should be over-explained. She sees art as something to be experienced rather than solved, believing the most meaningful connections happen when viewers bring their own memories, emotions and imagination to the work.
A recent evolution in her practice saw Pav put the brushes down and begin painting with her bare hands. The process became more physical, instinctive and freeing, resulting in works that embrace movement, spontaneity and a greater sense of play. Rather than controlling every mark, she allows each painting to evolve naturally, trusting the story to reveal itself along the way.
Whether depicting a solitary figure or her signature fish motifs, Pav's paintings celebrate the beauty, complexity and humour of everyday life, creating space for each viewer to discover their own story within the work.
Pav Spencer art it is a joyful celebration of life, the wonderful fun moments that make this human experience a delightful journey. In these times of great burden, we need a reminder of happy things to make ourselves rejoice. Pav paintings have this healing balm. The happy medicine that makes us smile and dance (as she does in the process of creating them).
I would like very much to take my body aside and jump inside any of her works and enjoy the company and activities of her characters. We are very lucky indeed to have Pav Spencer sharing her visions with us.
